Mary Cassatt Collection

Mary Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker who lived in France for most of her life. She is best known for her depictions of the intimate lives of women, often featuring mothers and children. Her work was part of the Impressionist movement, although she rejected the label. She was a strong advocate for women's rights, particularly in regards to education and economic independence. Cassatt was born in Pennsylvania to a well-to-do family and studied art in Philadelphia before traveling to Europe where she studied with some of the leading artists at the time.
