Frederick Polydor Nodder Collection

Frederick Polydor Nodder (1776-1843) was an English artist and engraver. He is best known for his work in the field of book illustration, particularly his illustrations for children's books. He was born in London and studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1794 to 1802. His early works included illustrations for books such as The History of England by William Howitt and The Arabian Nights Entertainments by John Harris. In 1805 he began working with Thomas Bewick on a series of wood engravings which were published as A General History of Quadrupeds in 1809. Nodder also worked on several other projects, including illustrating works by Charles Dickens, William Wordsworth, and Walter Scott. His work is characterized by its delicate line work, attention to detail, and use of light and shade to create atmosphere. He died in London in 1843 at the age of 67.
