Brazilian Three-banded Armadillo Canvas Print Collection

The Brazilian Three-banded Armadillo (Chlamyphoridae) is a mammal found in South America, and is the only species of armadillo with three bands of armor and is one of the smallest species, measuring about 10 inches long and weighing up to 1.5 pounds. Its diet consists mainly of insects, larvae, and small invertebrates. The armadillo has a unique defense mechanism; when threatened it can roll itself into an almost impenetrable ball with its armor on the outside, protecting it from predators and has poor eyesight but an excellent sense of smell which helps it locate food sources in its environment. The Brazilian Three-banded Armadillo is listed as vulnerable due to habitat destruction and hunting for its meat and shell which are used for medicinal purposes in some areas. Conservation efforts are being made to protect this species from further decline.
