St Dubhthachs Church or Clachan Duich Cemetery

This ancient church and cemetery overlooks Loch Duich in between Dornie and Shiel Bridge, near A87 Morvich. In the distance to the left is the mountain Beinn Fhada or Ben Attow. To the right is Sgurr Fhuaran. Known as Clachan Duich or St Dubhthachs church, the graveyard contains many MacRae graves and a memorial to the MacRae Clan Chief, Sir Colin George MacRae. A parish has been on this site as early as 750 AD. In 1050 the church was dedicated to St Dubhthach. The church was shelled by the same ships that destroyed the well known Eilean Donan Castle. The former parish church of Kintail may be in ruins ( reconstructed in 1855 ), but the burial ground surrounding it is still in use today. Morvich, Scotland, United Kingdom

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the haunting beauty of St Dubhthach's Church or Clachan Duich Cemetery, perched majestically overlooking Loch Duich in Morvich, Scotland. The ancient church and cemetery hold a rich history that dates back to 750 AD when a parish was established on this very site. The image showcases the rugged Scottish landscape with Beinn Fhada or Ben Attow standing proudly to the left and Sgurr Fhuaran gracing the right side. As twilight descends upon the scene, an air of mystery and solemnity fills the atmosphere. The graveyard itself is adorned with numerous MacRae graves, paying homage to their ancestral heritage. A poignant memorial stands tall for Sir Colin George MacRae, Chief of the MacRae Clan. Despite its age and deterioration, this burial ground remains in use today as a testament to tradition and remembrance.
