Born in Antwerp, Hyperius studied at the University of Louvain and later became a professor of theology at the same institution. He was known for his profound knowledge of the Bible, Greek, and Hebrew, and was a prolific writer and commentator on various theological and biblical subjects. Hyperius was a key figure in the reformist movement in the Low Countries, advocating for a return to the original teachings of the early Church. He was a vocal critic of the sale of indulgences and the corruption within the Church hierarchy. However, he stopped short of embracing the more radical reformist ideas of the Protestant Reformation.
