EDITORS COMMENTS
Hussain Sagar Lake: A Timeless Symbol Connecting Hyderabad and Secundrabad, India (circa 1880s) This image transports us back in time to the late 1800s, showcasing the serene beauty of Hussain Sagar Lake in India, which has served as a vital link between the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad for over a century. The lake, named after Hussain Shah Wali, a Sufi saint, is a man-made lake created in 1562 AD by Hazrat Hussain Shah Wali, a Sufi saint. However, the present-day Hussain Sagar Lake was enlarged in 1854 by the then Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan. The photograph, taken circa 1880s, offers a breathtaking view of the lake, with its crystal-clear waters reflecting the lush greenery and the majestic Buddha Statue, which was erected in 1992 on the island in the middle of the lake. The tranquil waters of Hussain Sagar Lake have been a source of inspiration for poets, artists, and photographers alike, and have played a significant role in the cultural, social, and economic development of the twin cities. The bridge in the background, which is now known as the Nehru Road Bridge, was built in 1931 and was the first major bridge to connect Hyderabad and Secundrabad. The bridge not only facilitated the movement of people and goods between the two cities but also fostered a sense of unity and togetherness. This photograph is a testament to the enduring charm and significance of Hussain Sagar Lake in the history and culture of Hyderabad and Secundrabad. It serves as a reminder of the rich heritage and the strong bond that exists between the two cities, which continue to thrive and grow, while the lake remains a cherished symbol of their shared past and present.
