EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the historic Archery Tavern, once a beloved public house nestled in the heart of Eastbourne, Sussex. The image, taken from an angle showcasing the corner of the pub, reveals its charming red-brick facade adorned with intricate stonework and decorative archways. The Archery Tavern was a cherished establishment in the local community, with a rich history that dates back to the early 19th century. Originally owned by various breweries and companies, the pub was a staple in the Kemp Town area of Eastbourne. Its name, "Archery Tavern," is believed to have been inspired by the town's historical connections to archery. Over the years, the pub underwent various renovations and expansions, but its character and welcoming atmosphere remained unchanged. Unfortunately, by July 2018, the Archery Tavern had closed its doors for the last time. It was later demolished, making way for new shops and flats on the site. The loss of this historic pub is deeply felt by the local community, as it represented a piece of Eastbourne's rich history and cultural heritage. This photograph, taken by The National Brewery Heritage Trust, serves as a poignant reminder of the Archery Tavern and the memories it holds for generations of Eastbourne residents. Though the pub may be gone, its legacy lives on through images like this one, which capture its essence and beauty for years to come.
