EDITORS COMMENTS
This delightfully humorous comic postcard from the 20th century portrays a plump, middle-aged couple sitting in their cozy home, each intently focused on their own letter. The woman, with a frumpish appearance and a furrowed brow, leans forward, her hand shielding her eyes as she squints at the illegible scrawl on the page. Her husband, a jovial man with a double chin and a mischievous grin, holds up his letter with a puzzled expression, as if to ask, "What on earth does this say?" The source of their confusion is none other than the handwriting of their auntie, which resembles a chicken scratched on a chalkboard more than legible text. The chaos is amplified by the fact that both letters seem to contain some sort of calamitous news - the woman's letter appears to read "Uncle shot himself!" while the man's reads "Uncle drunk!" The scene is reminiscent of the classic British humor found in the works of Donald McGill and other postcard artists of the era. The couple's amused yet baffled expressions add to the light-hearted tone, making this postcard a fun and entertaining addition to any collection.
