Greville's impressive career spanned over four decades, during which he served some of the most prominent figures in British history. Born in 1866, Greville began his political career as an Assistant Private Secretary to the Under-Secretary of State for India in 1887. His exceptional abilities soon caught the attention of the Prime Minister, Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, who appointed him as his Private Secretary from 1888 to 1892 and again from 1896 to 1898. Greville's tenure with the Prime Minister was followed by his appointment as Equerry to the Prince of Wales from 1898 to 1901 and as Groom-in-Waiting to King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, and to King George V in 1910 and 1920. Greville's duties extended beyond the royal court, as he also served as Private Secretary to Queen Alexandra from 1901 to 1911, Paymaster of the Household from 1911 to 1915, and Comptroller and Treasurer to the Prince of Wales from 1915 to 1920.
