This nineteenth-century illustration showcases the distinctive features of this charadriiforme bird, with its brown hood and grey back, wings, and underparts. The Sabines Gull is a member of the Laridae family, and its long, pointed bill is a notable characteristic, making it easily identifiable. The Sabines Gull is named after the Sabine people, an ancient Italian tribe, and was first described by the Italian naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi in 1599. This gull is a migratory species, breeding in the Arctic regions and wintering in the Atlantic and Mediterranean. The illustration captures the Sabines Gull in its natural habitat, outside, during daytime.
