Helen Folasade Adu, CBE born 16 January 1959, known professionally as Sade Adu or simply Sade is a Nigerian British singer-songwriter, composer, arranger and record producer. Backed by members Paul S. Denman, Andrew Hale and Stuart Matthewman, she gained worldwide fame as the lead vocalist of the English band Sade.
Following a brief stint as a fashion designer of mens clothing and part-time model, Sade began singing backup for the band Pride in the early 1980s. Growing attention from record labels led her, along with other fellow band members, to separate from Pride and form the band Sade. Following a record deal with Epic Records, the band released their debut album Diamond Life (1984). The album sold over six million copies, becoming one of the top-selling debut recordings of the 1980s, and the best-selling debut ever by a British female vocalist.

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures Sade Adu in the studio, back in March 1984. Helen Folasade Adu, professionally known as Sade, is a Nigerian British singer-songwriter and record producer who rose to international fame as the lead vocalist of the English band named after her. Alongside talented members Paul S. Denman, Andrew Hale, and Stuart Matthewman, she mesmerized audiences with her soulful voice and unique style. Before embarking on her musical journey, Sade briefly explored fashion design for men's clothing and even dabbled in modeling. However, it was her exceptional talent that led her to become a backup singer for the band Pride during the early 1980s. As their popularity grew and record labels took notice of their potential, Sade and other band members decided to break away from Pride and form their own group. Signing a deal with Epic Records proved to be a turning point for them all. In 1984, they released their debut album "Diamond Life" which became an instant sensation worldwide. Selling over six million copies globally, it remains one of the best-selling debut albums by any British female artist. This remarkable photograph not only showcases Sade's beauty but also commemorates an iconic moment in music history when she began carving out her path towards becoming one of the most influential artists of our time.
