EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the remarkable Divina Galica, a trailblazer in the world of skiing. In this image taken in December 1971, Great Britain's very own Galica strikes a pose while engaging in cross-country skiing, also known as langlauf. Galica's journey began at an early age when she made her Olympic debut at just 20 years old during the Innsbruck Games in 1964. Fearlessly competing in downhill skiing and slalom events, she showcased her immense talent and determination on the slopes. Her passion for winter sports led her to participate in two more consecutive Winter Olympics; Grenoble in 1968 and Sapporo in 1972. Not only did Galica represent her country with pride, but she also held the prestigious position of captain for the British Women's Olympic Ski Team during both these games. Demonstrating exceptional skill and grace, she achieved top-ten finishes in Giant Slalom competitions. However, Galica's ambitions extended beyond skiing alone. In an unprecedented move that shattered gender barriers within motorsport, she fearlessly entered the British Grand Prix of Formula One racing back in 1976. This bold endeavor made her only the third woman ever to attempt such a feat. Through this extraordinary photograph by Colorsport Images, we are reminded of Divina Galica's indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication to breaking boundaries across various sporting disciplines throughout her illustrious career
