Cushion : Coastal Geomorphology
Home Decor from Australian Views
Coastal Geomorphology
An aerial view of coastal plains on the western side of Cape York peninsula, Australia. A large river is draining into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The river meanders through floodplains and salt flats and is mangrove-lined in my reaches. Ox-bow lakes are evident, formed as meander bends erode onto each other and straighten the river channel. Offshore longitudinal currents have created sand dune strand lines, possibly with indications of heavy mineral sands. Such remote locations are becoming popular recreational fishing spots

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing coastal geomorphology of the western side of Cape York peninsula in Australia. From an aerial perspective, one can witness the intricate beauty of this landscape as a large river gracefully drains into the Gulf of Carpentaria. The river meanders through vast floodplains and salt flats, creating a stunning visual spectacle. Its banks are adorned with lush mangroves, adding to the enchantment of this natural wonder. As one explores further, ox-bow lakes come into view - evidence of meander bends eroding onto each other and reshaping the course of the river. Offshore longitudinal currents have left their mark on this coastline by forming distinct sand dune strand lines that stretch along its shores. These sandy formations may even hold valuable heavy mineral sands, hinting at hidden treasures beneath their surface. It is no surprise that such remote locations have gained popularity among recreational fishermen seeking serene fishing spots away from bustling city life. This photograph serves as a reminder that nature's untouched beauty still exists in our modern world and invites us to appreciate and preserve these precious landscapes for generations to come. Photography by Mangiwau has skillfully captured this breathtaking scene, allowing viewers to immerse themselves in the wonders of coastal geomorphology found in Australia's Cape York peninsula.
