In 1962, London Bridge was falling down. Built in 1831, the bridge couldn t handle the ever-increasing flow of traffic across the Thames River. The British government decided to put the bridge up for sale, and Robert McCulloch, Founder of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation, submitted the winning bid of $2, 460, 000.
The bridge was dismantled, and each stone was numbered. Everything was shipped 10, 000 miles to Long Beach, California, and then trucked to Lake Havasu City. Reconstruction began on September 23, 1968, with a ceremony including the Lord Mayor of London, who laid the cornerstone. On October 10, 1971, the bridge was dedicated

In 1962, this historic bridge was facing demolition due to its inability to handle the increasing traffic flow across the Thames River in London. However, thanks to the vision and determination of Robert McCulloch, Founder of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and Chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation, the bridge found a new home across the pond.
After winning a bid for $2.46 million, each stone of London Bridge was carefully dismantled and shipped over 10,000 miles to Long Beach, California before making its final journey by truck to Lake Havasu City. The meticulous reconstruction process began on September 23rd, 1968 with a ceremonial cornerstone laying by none other than the Lord Mayor of London himself.
Finally completed on October 10th, 1971 and dedicated with great fanfare, this piece of British history now stands proudly in Arizona as a symbol of transatlantic cooperation and cultural exchange. This print serves as a reminder that even when faced with destruction or decay, our shared heritage can be preserved for future generations to enjoy and appreciate.
