Letter from William Augustus to Thomas Pelham-Holles, 23rd April 1746. Letter written from Inverness a week after the battle of Culloden (16th April) by William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland to Thomas Pelham-Holles, Duke of Newcastle, Secretary of State. The letter expresses Cumberlands gratification on having been an instrument in the affair and on the fact that the victory was won by the British troops alone without Hessian aid, advocating a complete change in the system of government in Scotland, and stating his belief that Lord Lovat will be captured.
