Born in 1709 as Anna Elizaveta, the youngest daughter of Peter the Great, Elizabeth ascended to the throne following the death of her nephew, Ivan VI, in a coup d'état. Her reign is marked by significant cultural and political developments in Russia. Elizabeth is depicted in this profile portrait with a striking expression, her piercing gaze fixed on an unseen horizon.
