Born on September 28, 1841, in Mouilleron-en-Pareds, France, Clemenceau rose to prominence as a journalist, lawyer, and politician. He first served as Prime Minister from 1906 to 1909, but it was during the Great War that he truly made his mark. In this image, taken circa 1917, Clemenceau is seen raising his hat in a gesture of respect or acknowledgment, with a backdrop of soldiers in the distance.
