This print depicts the esteemed Scottish soldier, James Francis Edward Keith (1696-1758), who rose to prominence in European military history during the Seven Years War as the commander of Prussian forces. Born in Scotland, Keith's military career began in the British Army, but his exceptional skills and leadership abilities soon caught the attention of Frederick II of Prussia, also known as Frederick the Great. In the late 1730s, Keith joined the Prussian Army and quickly ascended through the ranks, earning the respect and admiration of Frederick the Great. By the mid-1740s, Keith had become a pivotal figure in the Prussian military, leading forces in several key battles against their common enemies, including the Austrians and French. In recognition of his unwavering loyalty and military prowess, Frederick the Great appointed Keith as a Field Marshal in 1745, an honor bestowed upon only the most trusted and capable commanders. Keith's leadership continued to be instrumental in the Prussian victories throughout the Seven Years War, solidifying his place in military history.
