EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures the timeless charm of the Black Horse Pub, located in the heart of London's Marylebone neighborhood. Established in the late 1800s, the Black Horse has been a cherished local watering hole for over a century. The pub, which is depicted here in its original form on the main side of the print, exudes an inviting and cozy atmosphere with its red brick facade, ornate wooden sign, and welcoming front door. The back of the print reveals the address of the pub, Black Horse PH, Marylebone, London W1U 4RP. As of July 2018, the Black Horse was still standing proudly on the corner of Wigmore Street and Marylebone High Street. However, it is important to note that this photograph was taken before the pub was taken over by Providores, a popular restaurant chain, and transformed into a dining establishment. The Black Horse is not only a historic building but also an essential piece of London's rich brewing heritage. Although it is no longer a pub, this photograph serves as a reminder of the important role that public houses, or "pubs," have played in the social and cultural fabric of the city. The National Brewery Heritage Trust, which holds the copyright to this image, has dedicated itself to preserving and celebrating the history of brewing in the UK. This photograph is a testament to their commitment to preserving the stories and buildings that shape our past and continue to inspire us today.
