The image is a brilliant vignette from the archives of Kays, a renowned Scottish photography studio. Sir James Montgomery (1821-1894), a distinguished Scottish lawyer and politician, served as Lord Provost of Edinburgh from 1882 to 1885. He was a Liberal Unionist and held various positions in the Scottish and British governments, including Solicitor General for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Scotland. His dedication to public service and legal expertise earned him a knighthood in 1887. David Stuart Moncrieff (1837-1908) was a Scottish lawyer and Liberal politician who served as Lord Advocate of Scotland from 1886 to 1892. He was a key figure in the Scottish Liberal Party and played an essential role in the passage of several significant pieces of legislation during his tenure as Lord Advocate. Moncrieff's legal expertise and political acumen made him a respected and influential figure in Scottish politics.
