EDITORS COMMENTS
This saucer, adorned with the decorative motifs of the Womens Freedom League (WFL), is a testament to the powerful and enduring spirit of the suffragette movement in early 20th century Britain. The saucer, part of a larger tea service, bears the distinctive colors of the League - green, gold, and white -- and features a bold banner decoration emblazoned with the WFL's "Votes for Women" badge or shield emblem and the empowering motto, "Dare To Be Free." The intricate details of the design reflect the unwavering determination and courage of the suffragettes in their fight for women's rights and suffrage. The saucer, stamped with the name and address of the retailer, J. Abrahams, located at Pembroke House, 133, Oxford St. in London, adds an interesting historical context to the piece. Circa 1911, this saucer would have been a prized possession for a supporter of the WFL, serving as a daily reminder of the ongoing struggle for women's freedom and the importance of daring to challenge the status quo. The saucer's intricate design and powerful message continue to resonate with us today, serving as a reminder of the courage and determination of the suffragettes and the progress that has been made in the fight for women's rights.
