"Ranee", Dudley Zoos six-year-old elephant

" Ranee", Dudley Zoos six-year-old elephant, is just broken in to her new type of expanding barness. The barness allows for any variation in size of her stomach and back, apart from carrying six people on top. It took some time for the keepers to get her used to the idea and pictures show them with " Ranee" introducing her to new contraption. The keeper, who has just fallen into a sitting position on ground, is head keeper Harry Hatch; he overbalanced when adjusting the straps. October 1951 P011836
