EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a historic moment in the world of steam locomotives. The Mighty Riddles Standard class 9F No. 92203, affectionately known as Black Prince, pulls the very last steam-hauled iron ore train from Bidston Docks in Birkenhead to John Summer's Steelworks at Shotton, Deeside. It was November of 1967 when this monumental journey took place. The significance of this event is further enhanced by the presence of Sir Richard Summers on the footplate. As he stands alongside the powerful locomotive, one can only imagine his pride and admiration for these magnificent machines that have served industries for decades. After its service on this final mission, Black Prince found a new home with artist David Shepherd who recognized its beauty and historical value. He bestowed upon it a fitting name that resonates with power and elegance. Today, we are transported back to this era through Memory Lane Prints' remarkable collection. This particular photograph showcases not just an iconic locomotive but also pays homage to the dedicated individuals like Sir Richard Summers who played crucial roles in shaping our industrial history. As we gaze upon this image frozen in time, let us appreciate the craftsmanship behind these mighty engines and remember their contribution to our past while celebrating their enduring legacy.
