Part of the history of Guisborough is being given new life

Part of the history of Guisborough is being given new life. The old-fashioned cobbles, are being relaid only a short distance from the towns market cross. Work was recently done by Langbaurgh Borough Council to raise a section of footpath near the town hall, with the sim of preventing vehicular access to Bakehouse Square, where there are now some new shops. Pictured working on the area between the town hall and the Seven Stars public house are Mr Kim Fredlich-Tinkler (left) and Mr Mike Willett. 7th February 1979

EDITORS COMMENTS
Preserving Guisborough's Rich History: A Glimpse into the Past". In this photo print, a slice of Guisborough's history is being lovingly restored, breathing new life into the town. The old-fashioned cobbles, reminiscent of a bygone era, are being meticulously relaid just a stone's throw away from the bustling market cross. It was Langbaurgh Borough Council that recently undertook an important project to elevate a section of footpath near the town hall, effectively safeguarding Bakehouse Square from vehicular access and paving the way for charming new shops. Captured in this snapshot from February 7th, 1979, we witness Mr Kim Fredlich-Tinkler and Mr Mike Willett diligently working on revitalizing the area between the town hall and Seven Stars public house. Their dedication to preserving Guisborough's heritage is evident as they carefully lay each cobblestone with precision and care. Transporting us back to a simpler time in Guisborough's past, this image encapsulates both nostalgia and progress. As these skilled craftsmen restore these historic stones to their former glory, they pay homage to generations before them who traversed these very streets. This remarkable photograph serves as a testament to our collective responsibility in cherishing our cultural legacy. By honoring our past while embracing change for future generations, we ensure that Guisborough remains forever rooted in its rich history.
