EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a behind-the-scenes moment from the filming of the episode "A Rolls By Any other Name" in the beloved Thames television sitcom Bless This House. The second series of this comedic gem starred Sid James as the lovable Sid Abbott and Diana Coupland as his devoted wife Jean. In this particular episode, filmed along Clarence Avenue in New Malden, Sid finds himself caught up in an unexpected situation. Seizing an opportunity to test-drive his boss's luxurious Rolls Royce, he unwittingly stumbles upon a "Ban The Car" demonstration led by none other than his own teenage children, Mike and Sally. As Sid attempts to disperse the demonstrators, chaos ensues when the police arrive on scene. Ultimately, both father and daughter find themselves reluctantly escorted into the back of a Black Maria. Taken on February 8th, 1972 for an episode that aired on May 8th, this photograph offers us a glimpse into not only a specific moment in time but also into the magic of television production during that era. With its authentic street scene setting and talented cast members captured mid-scene, it serves as a nostalgic reminder of classic 1970s entertainment.
