Mr. Ron Matfield's Extraordinary Endeavor - Transforming a Lifeboat into a Dream Cabin Cruiser

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this photo print, we witness the remarkable determination of Mr. Ron Matfield, a reactor manager at Atomic Energy Est. Harwell and resident of 25 Hendred Way in Abingdon. Aged 58 with three children and his beloved wife Pamela by his side, Mr. Matfield embarked on an ambitious project that would leave his neighbors in awe. Yearning to create a unique retreat within the confines of his suburban home, Mr. Matfield set out to transform a colossal 40-foot ship's lifeboat into an enchanting cabin cruiser. However, faced with the challenge of maneuvering such an immense vessel through narrow streets and tight spaces, he devised an ingenious plan. On that fateful day - February 15th, 1966 - our lens captured the extraordinary sight as a crane delicately lifted the lifeboat high above their humble abode before gently placing it in their backyard sanctuary. This snapshot not only showcases Mr. Matfield's unwavering determination but also highlights the strong sense of community present during those times.
