James Hunt (McLaren M23-Ford), 1st position leads Patrick Depallier (Tyrrell P34-Ford), retired, Vittorio Brambilla (March 761-Ford), retired, Jochen Mass (McLaren M23-Ford), retired and Jacques Lafitte (Ligier JS5-Matra), 12th position. Both Hunt (Car too wide) and Laffite (Rear aerofoil irregular) were disqualified, but later reinstated after appeal, action.
