Engraving of a Bullock Rotary Press of 1865. Designed by one William Bullock, this was the first press to use continuous web feeding (ie from a roll of paper rather than individual sheets). It was used primarily for printing newspapers, and was first used to print copies of the Philadelphia Enquirer. This illustration first appeared in " A Short History of the Printing Press", New York 1902
