EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a page from the Hunterian Psalter, a remarkable manuscript dating back to the 12th century. The image, titled "MS Hunter 229 f. 2v April" depicts the month of April in all its glory. In the center of the historiated letter K, we see two figures beautifully rendered with pen and ink, and tempera on vellum. The first figure is adorned with long fair hair and wears a conical gold crown. Holding a white scepter in his right hand, he dons a close-fitting sleeved pink robe while delicately holding onto the long cuff of the second person's attire. The second figure wears an elegant toque-shaped hat and has her left cuff thrown over her shoulders. Both individuals sport crimson shoes laced with white. The background behind them is painted in serene blue hues embellished with intricate fleur-de-lis patterns in white, adding depth to this enchanting scene. Adjacent to this illustration lies another fascinating element: Taurus represented by a brown bull with vibrant green horns standing against blue mountains (?). This sign occupies its own space within an orange background adorned with delicate white floral patterns. The Hunterian Psalter itself contains various sections such as Kalendarivm, Psalterivm, Litania, Preces Qvaedam. It is also known as both Hunterian Psalter and York Psalter throughout history due to its significance.
