EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases "The Carondelet Diptych" by Jan Gossaert, also known as Mabuse. The diptych consists of two panels; on the left is a portrait of Jean Carondelet, an influential figure in his time as the Dean of Besancon Church and advisor to Charles V. On the right panel, we see a tender depiction of Madonna and Child. Painted in 1517 during the Northern Renaissance period, this oil on panel masterpiece measures 42.5x27 cm each and currently resides in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The artist's attention to detail is evident through his meticulous brushwork and vibrant color palette. Jean Carondelet's portrait exudes wisdom and authority with its lifelike representation. His eyes seem to hold centuries worth of knowledge while his hands are clasped together in prayerful contemplation. In contrast, the Madonna and Child painting captures a serene moment between mother and son. Mary gazes lovingly at her infant Jesus who reaches out towards her with tiny fingers. This intimate scene radiates warmth and tenderness. Jan Gossaert's skillful execution brings these two distinct subjects together harmoniously within one frame, creating a visual narrative that speaks volumes about faith, power, and love. Thanks to Peter Willi's expert photography skills, this remarkable artwork can be enjoyed for generations to come without any copyright restrictions or limitations on its use.
