The United Provinces Light Horse was formed in 1904 from the amalgamation of the Allahabad Light Horse, the Cawnpore Light Horse, the Gorakhpur Light Horse, the Ghazipur Light Horse and the Oudh Light Horse.
The figure of the horsemen is similar to an equestrian statue of Lieutenant-General Sir James Outram (1803-1863) in Calcutta, sculpted by John Henry Foley. Outram distinguished himself in the operation to relieve the besieged city of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859).

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a stunning collar badge from the United Provinces Horse, dating back to 1904-1947. Crafted with intricate detail, this silver and gilt badge features a horseman on a tablet adorned with the battle honor "A Relief of Lucknow" positioned above a scroll bearing the name of the auxiliary unit, "United Provinces Horse". The United Provinces Light Horse was established in 1904 through the amalgamation of several esteemed light horse units including Allahabad Light Horse, Cawnpore Light Horse, Gorakhpur Light Horse, Ghazipur Light Horse, and Oudh Light Horse. This emblematic piece not only represents their unity but also pays homage to their distinguished history. Interestingly enough, the figure of the horsemen depicted on this badge bears resemblance to an equestrian statue sculpted by John Henry Foley. The statue portrays Lieutenant-General Sir James Outram who played a pivotal role in leading operations to relieve Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny (1857-1859). This connection adds another layer of historical significance to this remarkable artifact. Part of Field Marshal Sir John Chapple's Indian Army Collection at London's National Army Museum, this photograph captures both the beauty and historical importance embodied within this exquisite collar badge. A true testament to bravery and camaraderie within India's military history.
