This blacksmiths anvil was built up in several sections and hammered together while still molten. On a splayed pedestal, the back of the tool is flat while the front comprises a central pilaster between two arches, giving the cathedral-like impression. A zigzag border pattern frames a fleur-de-lis flanked by the date 1787 and the initials " VD". The square hole pierced in the table is for the cutter, while the holes at each end of the pedestal are for inserting lifting bars.
