This print showcases the original score of the symphony that accompanied the entry of Alcides in Tobias Smollett's play Alcestes, set to music by George Frederick Handel. Created between 27 December 1749 and 8 January 1750, this pen and ink composition is a true masterpiece. Held in a private collection, it is the only known example of incidental music composed by Handel. Although not performed for its intended purpose, this remarkable score found new life when it was used for Handel's Oratorio The Choice of Hercules on 1 March 1751.
