EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a historic moment as Francis I of France humbly requests to be knighted by the legendary Chevalier Bayard. The scene takes place after Francis I's triumphant victory at the Battle of Marignano in Italy in 1515. After appointing Bayard as Lieutenant General of the Dauphine on January 20th, 1515, Francis I desired to receive the prestigious order of chivalry from his hand. It was on the morning of September 15th, just after their glorious triumph at Marignano, that Francois I gathered together the esteemed members of his court for this solemn occasion. At only twenty years old, Francois I sought recognition from one who embodied courage and loyalty during those medieval times. Chevalier Bayard had become synonymous with these virtues and was revered throughout Europe. The painting by Louis Ducis beautifully captures this significant event in history. Oil on canvas brings life to every detail - from Francis I's anticipation and respect to Chevalier Bayard's noble stature and regal presence. Displayed proudly at Blois' Musee Communal Du Chateau, this artwork serves as a reminder not only of an extraordinary act but also highlights the importance placed upon honor and knighthood during that era. As we gaze upon this remarkable image captured by Photo Josse, we are transported back in time to witness a pivotal moment when two great figures united through tradition and admiration for valorous deeds.
