EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures the awe-inspiring sight of Royal Navy Seaking Mk4 helicopters soaring through the sky over the snow-covered mountains of northern Norway. These powerful aircraft belong to 845 Naval Air Squadron and are conducting Arctic flying training in one of the most challenging environments on Earth. Situated deep within the Arctic Circle, at the Joint Helicopter Command (JHC) training facility near Bardufoss, Northern Norway, known as Clockwork, this base provides crucial survival and operational training for aviation capable units. For over 40 years, it has been a vital resource for Commando Helicopter Force (CHF), enabling them to prepare for future operations in extreme cold weather conditions. During their annual winter training exercise, approximately 150 naval personnel from CHF will participate in essential Environmental Training (ET) and Pre-Deployment Training (PDT). The aircrews, engineers, and support staff from 845 Naval Air Squadron will hone their skills in preparation for upcoming deployments. In addition to the Royal Navy's presence, around 50 naval personnel attached to RAF Benson's 28 Squadron will also undergo Arctic flying training with Augusta Westland Merlin Mk3 helicopters. This image was a winner in the prestigious RN Peregrine Trophy Competition back in 2014. It showcases not only the bravery and skill of these military personnel but also highlights the stunning natural beauty that serves as both a challenge and an inspiration during their arctic training exercises.
