Fine Art Prints from Australian Views
Goulburn Courthouse, Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia
Since Goulburn was the largest town in the district, this court house of Italianate style built in 1881 was both local and district courts as well as supreme court. Designed by respected Governmnet Architect James Barnet, the court house opened in 1887 by the Chief Justice, Sir Frederick Darley and today stands grandly over the Montague Streetscape. The large copper roof dome was designed by the London trained architect, Rumsey, and the carving on the large sandstone gateposts at the entrance to the grounds was the work of David Baldwin of Sydney. It is one of the most spectacular court houses in New South Wales
