This print showcases a remarkable masterpiece by Rogier van der Weyden, titled "The Annunciation, St. Sebastian, St. Anthony the Great and the two Donors". Created between 1445-50, this oil on panel painting is housed in Hotel Dieu, Beaune, France. In this Northern Renaissance artwork, we witness a momentous scene unfold before our eyes. The Archangel Gabriel kneels before the Virgin Mary in an illusionistic niche while delivering the news of her divine pregnancy - the Annunciation. Both figures are exquisitely sculptural and radiate grace and serenity. Flanking them are two revered saints: St. Sebastian and St. Anthony the Great. St. Sebastian stands tall with his body pierced by arrows as a testament to his martyrdom for his faith. On the other side stands St. Anthony holding a staff with an intricate bell attached to it symbolizing his role as patron saint of those suffering from infectious diseases. The presence of two donors adds another layer of significance to this extraordinary composition; their prayerful gestures demonstrate their devotion to these holy figures depicted on panels from the reverse side of van der Weyden's Last Judgement.
