The engraving, created by Joseph Desire Court after an original artwork, captures the essence of Valee's distinguished career as a Count and Marshal. Valee's life was intertwined with significant events such as the French Revolutionary War, Napoleonic Wars, and Algerian Wars. His exceptional skills as a soldier and artillery commander earned him recognition from Napoleon himself. In 1814, after successful campaigns in Spain, he was granted the title of Comte. Even after the Bourbon restoration under Louis XVIII, Valee remained an integral part of the French military establishment. He played a crucial role in reorganizing the country's artillery system known as "the Valee system" showcasing his expertise and strategic brilliance. In 1837, Valee embarked on another remarkable journey to Algeria where he achieved great success by capturing Constantine.
