Painted by Lucas the Younger Cranach and his studio, this exquisite oil on copper artwork measures 19.7x17.8 cm and is currently housed in the Czartoryski Museum in Cracow, Poland. Katarzyna Jagiellonka, also known as Catherine Jagiellon, was born on November 1st, 1526 to Sigismund I of Poland and Bona Sforza. She married John III of Sweden and became Duchess of Finland from 1562 until her passing in September 1583. Throughout her life, she held several prestigious titles including Queen Consort of Sweden (1569-1583) and Grand Princess of Finland (1581-1583). In this half-length portrait, Katarzyna exudes regal elegance with her embroidered attire befitting her royal status. The intricate details captured by Cranach's brushwork emphasize her beauty and grace.
