The Chevalier, also known as Charles Genevieve Louise Auguste Andree Timothee d'Eon de Beaumont, was a French diplomat, political adventurer, and spy during the 18th century. In this equestrian portrait, we see the Chevalier dressed as a Dragoon - a captain of cavalry under Marshal de Broglie.
