EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the magnificent fresco of Putna Monastery, a renowned Romanian Orthodox monastery with deep cultural, religious, and artistic significance. Built and dedicated by Prince Stephen the Great in medieval Moldavia, this monastery stands as one of the most important centers of its kind. Within the walls of Putna Monastery lie the tombs of Stephen himself and several members of his family. Today, it serves as a place of pilgrimage for many seeking solace and spiritual enlightenment. The construction of this grand structure began right after Stephen's victorious battle that led to the conquest of Chilia citadel. Filled with gratitude towards God, he initiated the building process on July 10th, 1466. The church was intended to be devoted to the Virgin Mary. Although it took three years to complete Putna Monastery's construction, consecration was delayed due to further battles fought by Moldavians. Finally, on September 3rd, 1470, during a momentous ceremony attended by Stephen and his entire family, this sacred site was consecrated. Since then, it has held an esteemed position as a paramount religious destination in its region. Through this stunning photograph captured by ralucahphotography. ro from Fine Art Storehouse (not affiliated with any company), we are transported into the awe-inspiring beauty and historical significance embodied within these hallowed walls.
