EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back in time to the year 1882, when scientific illustrations were meticulously hand-colored and published as chromolithographs. The image showcases a fascinating array of worms, each intricately detailed and labeled for identification. On the left side, we see an enlarged part of Coenurus cerebralis, a parasitic worm that affects the brain. Moving clockwise, our eyes are drawn to Ascaris lumbricoides, a large roundworm known for infecting human intestines. Next is Dracunculus medinensis or Guinea worm, notorious for causing painful skin ulcers. As we continue our exploration, we encounter Taenia solium or pork tapeworm—a parasite found in undercooked pork—and Lumbricus terrestris, the common earthworm essential for soil health. The composition also includes Hirudo medicinalis and Haemopis sanguisuga—medicinal leeches used historically in bloodletting practices. Further along are Antalis entalis (tooth shell), Serpula vermicularis (calcareous tubeworm), Perinereis cultrifera (polychaete worm), Aphrodita aculeata (sea mouse), Nais proboscidea (beaked nais), Hydra viridissima (green hydra), Alcyonium palmatum (red dead man's fingers) and Spongia officinalis (bath sponge). This extraordinary collection of worms
