Built on top of a radioactive uranium tailings dump, this community is living amidst extreme danger and deprivation. The shanty houses that make up this settlement are situated on highly radioactive mine tailings comprised mainly of uranium. The consequences of this hazardous environment are felt daily by the residents who have no choice but to call it home. They grow their vegetables in soil contaminated with uranium and allow their children to play in areas where radiation levels are dangerously high. Adding to their plight is the absence of basic amenities. There is no school for the children, leaving them without access to education and a chance for a better future.
