Zacatecas, teleferico system on the Bufa mountain is an old Aerial Tram and dates from 1975, it was meant as a medium of transportation but today is more like a touristic atraction on the city.
The state name derives from the name of its capital, Zacatecas. Its main economic activities are mining, agriculture and tourism.
The city had its start as a Spanish mining camp in the mid 16th century. Native Americans had already known about the areas rich deposits of silver and other minerals. Due to the wealth that the mines provided, Zacatecas quickly became one of the most important cities in New Spain, with much of its silver enriching the Spanish crown. The area saw battles during the turbulent 19th century, but the next major event was the Battle of Zacatecas during the Mexican Revolution when Francisco Villa captured the town, an event still celebrated every anniversary. EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the iconic Zacatecas Teleferico, an old aerial tram system situated on the majestic Bufa mountain in Zacatecas, Mexico. Dating back to 1975, this teleferico was originally built as a means of transportation but has now transformed into a popular tourist attraction within the city. Zacatecas, derived from the Nahuatl language meaning "where there is abundant zacate (grass)" is located in North-Central Mexico. Renowned for its rich silver and mineral deposits, colonial architecture, and historical significance during the Mexican Revolution, this state thrives on mining, agriculture, and tourism as its main economic activities. The city of Zacatecas traces its origins to a Spanish mining camp established in the mid-16th century. Native Americans had long been aware of the region's valuable minerals. The wealth generated by these mines propelled Zacatecas to become one of New Spain's most significant cities with vast amounts of silver enriching the Spanish crown. Throughout history, battles have shaped this area's destiny; notably among them was Francisco Villa's capture of Zacatecas during the Mexican Revolution—an event still commemorated annually. Today, Zacatecas' colonial district stands as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its stunning Baroque structures and other architectural gems constructed during its prosperous mining era. While mining remains vital to this region's economy even today—this photograph serves as a timeless reminder of both past glory and present allure that continues to draw visitors from far and wide.
