EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a remarkable historical artifact - a letter written by King Henry IV of France to Henry, Prince of Wales, on the 19th of February 1606. The letter, penned from Paris, expresses gratitude on behalf of the Dauphin (Henry's young son) for the generous gift of a pack of hounds. The image captures not only the beauty and elegance of this seventeenth-century correspondence but also its poignant significance. Tragically, Prince Henry Frederick met an untimely demise at the tender age of eighteen due to typhoid fever. The facsimile faithfully reproduces every intricate detail: from the delicate handwriting in French script to King Henry IV's signature that adorns this precious document. The vibrant colors bring life to this piece of history, transporting us back in time. As we gaze upon this print, we are reminded not only of the close relationship between two prominent figures - King Henry IV and Prince Henry Frederick - but also their shared passion for hunting dogs and country pursuits. Through this photograph, we catch a glimpse into an era long gone yet forever preserved within these pages. It serves as a testament to both human connection and loss; reminding us that even centuries later, emotions can transcend time through simple acts such as giving thanks or exchanging gifts.
