The Right Rev. Dr. Fulford, Lord Bishop of Montreal, 1850. The Right Rev. Dr. Fulford, first Bishop of Montreal, in Canada, the second son of the late Colonel Fulford, of Great Fulford, near Exeter, Devon, was born in 1803, and educated at Tiverton Grammar-School, from which he entered Exeter College, Oxford, where he took his degree of B.A. at the Easter Term of 1824, and of which, in the following year, he was elected a Fellow. In 1832, he was presented, by the Duke of Rutland, to the living of Trowbridge, in the diocese of Salisbury; in 1842, removed to Croydon, in Cambridgeshire; in 1845, was nominated by Earl Howe, minister of Curzon Chapel, Mayfair, where he continued until his recent appointment to the newly-created see of Montreal'. This striking black and white portrait captures The Right Reverend Dr. Francis Fulford, the first Bishop of Montreal in Canada. Born in 1803 in Devon, England, Fulford was educated at Tiverton Grammar-School before attending Exeter College at the University of Oxford, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1824 and was later elected a Fellow. In 1832, Fulford was presented with the living of Trowbridge in the diocese of Salisbury. He later moved to Croydon in Cambridgeshire in 1842. In 1845, Earl Howe, the minister of Curzon Chapel in Mayfair, nominated Fulford for the newly-created see of Montreal. Fulford's distinguished career in the Church of England is evident in this elegant and formal portrait, which was published in the Illustrated London News in 1850.
