Born in 1761, Kotzebue's prolific career spanned over five decades, during which he produced over 100 plays, many of which were translated into multiple languages and performed across Europe. The image captures Kotzebue in the prime of his life, with a thoughtful expression and piercing gaze that speaks to his intellectual prowess.
