One such monument, located along this iconic thoroughfare, is the Ilario Fusto tomb. Dated back to the 2nd century AD, this impressive funerary monument is a poignant reminder of the importance of family and ancestor veneration in Roman society. The relief on the tomb, meticulously carved from stone, depicts the deceased, Ilario Fusto, flanked by his pater familias, or family head, and patronus, or patron. The family members are shown in traditional Roman attire, with the pater familias wearing the toga virilis and the patronus wearing the toga praetexta. The inscription on the tomb reveals that Ilario was a patrician, a member of the highest social class in ancient Rome.
