The Argentine Tango, which originated in the late 19th century in the working-class neighborhoods of Buenos Aires, Argentina, had begun to spread beyond its borders by the early 1910s. This photograph, which was published in the Illustrated London News on December 21, 1911, under the caption "The Argentine Tango: A New Dance," helped to popularize the dance in Europe and beyond.
