EDITORS COMMENTS
In the heart of Derby, England, on a sunny day in June 1906, a significant historical moment unfolded as King Edward VII presided over the unveiling of a memorial statue of his beloved mother, Queen Victoria. The grand occasion took place on the 28th of June, exactly 37 years after her death, in the presence of an eager crowd that had gathered to witness the momentous event. The statue, masterfully crafted, depicted Queen Victoria in her regal attire, seated on a throne, with a serene expression on her face. The plinth, adorned with intricate carvings and inscriptions, stood proudly beneath the statue, a symbol of the deep respect and admiration the people of Derby held for their late monarch. King Edward VII arrived in a grand procession, accompanied by an entourage of nobles and dignitaries, in a magnificent carriage drawn by prancing horses. The onlookers, dressed in their finest attire, cheered and applauded as the King approached the statue, ready to unveil the memorial that would immortalize Queen Victoria's legacy in Derby. The ceremony was filled with pomp and pageantry, with the sound of the band playing, the bells of the nearby churches ringing, and the crowd's collective gasps as the King pulled the covering off the statue, revealing the intricately detailed figure of their beloved Queen Victoria. The occasion marked the end of a significant chapter in Derby's history, as the people paid tribute to their beloved monarch and celebrated her enduring impact on their community.
